My Home Garden

My Garden Story

Just a Simple Georgia Family Garden
My location in Northeast, Georgia, is in the USDA plant hardiness zone 7b.
Vegetables that grow really well in Georgia and hopefully a few in my garden are: onions, cucumbers, collards, lima beans, turnip greens, snap beans, corn, carrots, cabbage, southern peas, squash, peanuts, peppers, tomatoes.
Some of the fruits that grow well in Georgia are apples, apricots, cantaloupe, pears. peaches, plums, kiwi, cherries, strawberries, blackberries, blueberries, oranges, lemons, limes, and melons.
The climate is warm and humid most of the year, ideal for vegetable gardening but encouraging of certain diseases, pests, and weeds.
Spring crops are usually planted here in Georgia in late february and this continues until July. Fall crops are usually started in July and can be harvested pretty late into the year, usually until November.

My Garden Photography
Photographing my garden is a big part of the reward I get from gardening. It documents my excitement, my successes, and my failures. I can see how far things have grown and their process. There are many aspects of a home garden that are beautiful when photographed. I display my home garden photographs on this website and and a few others like Fine Art America, because it could be of value to someone and sometimes they may want to purchase it for their own use.
Photographing my garden is a new hobby that I have discovered I enjoy. Gardening gives me a good focus and main theme to work with in photography. Since my garden is outdoors, lighting is usually pretty great. There are tons of amphibians, insects, and wildlife to photograph around my house, and a lot of woods, plants, and flowers. My edible home garden plants are my favorite photography subjects though, as there is usually something new happening everyday.
Expertise
I want to make it clear, I am NO EXPERT! I am a home gardener just beginning my journey with fruit and vegetable growing. I made this website to share my experience with you as I grow from a beginner to hopefully a master gardener in the future. I research often and experiment in the garden often. I document all the information I find, here, on this website, in hopes it will help others get started with home gardening too!
The truth is, at first, and for many, many years, gardening intimidated me. I didn’t have a clue how to get started or know what kind of skills it would take to be successful. I imagined it would take up my whole yard, attract insects, and bring in rodents. None of that was TRUE! It is not as hard as I imagined and I really wish I had started sooner!
If you have been on the fence and have waited to start your own home garden, please don’t hesitate any longer. I am making this blog for you! I want it to be easy and I want you to see it is possible to fit a home garden into your life whether you live on ten acres or live in the city. If we all start home gardening regularly, I believe it could really make the world change in a big way environmentally and would have a positive impact on our own health.
